Air Europa is a Spanish carrier that operates flights around Europe, as well as to North America, South America, and the Caribbean. The company allows pets on most flights in the cabin or the hold.

Pets must travel with their owners or authorized people. Air Europa allows each passenger to bring up to 5 pets on the flight. If your number of pets exceeds the limit, you can use the service of the Air Europa Cargo Department. The contact phone number is 934 90 40 38. Please, note that Air Europa does not transport pets from/to the UK in the cabin or the hold. For this, use the Cargo Department as well.

Currently, there are some restrictions on flights to the USA with pets. Due to the rabies risk, the country does not allow dogs that have been in a high-risk country for the last 6 months and come without an official import permit. Be aware of this while planning your journey.

Animals are transported in the cabin or the hold, depending on several requirements. These are their species, breed, and weight.

It is allowed to transport small pets in the cabin of an airplane. Though, there are some requirements for the pet and its transport container:


· On short-haul and medium-haul flights, you can travel with the following animals: dogs, cats, small birds (except birds of prey), fish, aquarium turtles, hamsters, guinea pigs, and small rabbits;

· On long-haul flights, you can only travel with dogs and cats;

· You cannot transport any pets in the business cabin;

· Your dog or cat must have all the required vaccinations;

· Pets must be 3 months old and older to be allowed to travel on medium-haul and long-haul flights;

· Pets must travel in IATA-approved containers with ventilation on 4 sides of it;

· The maximum size of a container: 55 x 35 x 25 cm;

· The maximum weight of a pet is 8 kg. The maximum weight of a pet with the container is 10 kg;

· It is allowed to transport up to 3 pets in one container if they are of the same species and their overall weight does not exceed the limit;

· The prices of the transportation of pets in the cabin differ depending on your destination. That is a non-refundable service;

Dogs and cats that exceed 8 kg must travel in the cargo hold. These are the requirements for the transportation of pets in the hold:


· Only dogs and cats are allowed in the cargo hold. For the transportation of other species, you can use the service of Air Europa Cargo;

· Your dog or cat must have all the required vaccinations;

· It is allowed to transport up to 2 pets in one container if they are of the same size and their overall weight does not exceed 14 kg. However, you may transport 3 young pets (up to 6 months old) if they are from the same litter;

· The prices of the transportation of pets in the hold differ depending on your destination. That is a non-refundable service;

· Pets must travel in IATA-approved containers;

· The maximum weight of a pet with the container is 50 kg;

· Containers must be rigid and have metal doors;

· It is prohibited to use containers made of wire mesh or welded mesh;

· Please, stick a label on the container which includes the passenger’s name, address, and contact phone number;

· Fighting breeds of dogs considered dangerous must wear a muzzle during the flight. They are accepted only in special reinforced containers that are impossible to break.


These are dogs considered dangerous by Air Europa:


· Pit Bull Terrier;

· American Staffordshire Terrier;

· Rottweiler;

· Fila Brasileiro;

· Tosa Inu;

· Akita Inu.


There are some additional restrictions for the transportation of brachycephalic animals. These include short-muzzled and flat-faced cats and dogs. Due to their physical characteristics, they can suffer health problems and stress during the flight. According to this, they are only allowed to travel in the cabin, as companion animals. The weight of a pet and a container must not exceed 10 kg.

The brachycephalic breeds of animals are:

Dogs: Affenpinscher, American Bully, Boston Terrier, Boxer (all breeds), Bulldog (all breeds), Cane Corsican, Pug (all breeds), Chow Chow, Dogo (all breeds), Griffon Bruxellois, Lhasa Apso, Mastiff (all breeds), Pekingese, Pitbull, Shar-Pei, Shih-Tzu, Cocker / Spaniel (all breeds), Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Cats: Birman, Exotic Shorthair, Himalayan, Persian, British Shorthair.
