Bulgaria Air is Bulgaria's flag carrier airline, headquartered in Sofia. The company allows transportation of pets in the passenger cabin and the baggage hold under certain conditions.

The company recommends contacting the Customer Service Center at +44 788 966 4174 or LHR@bulgaria-air.co.uk at the time of booking. Every pet owner must get a special confirmation in order to transport their pets. Otherwise, Bulgaria Air may refuse the transportation.

Small dogs and cats weighing up to 8 kg, including a transport bag or container, can be transported in the cabin. Pets are allowed to travel when they are at least 12 weeks old. It is important that the pet complies with the conditions of EU Regulation 576/2013 as well. Please note that pets may be transported in the cabin only on direct flights by Bulgaria Air.

Passengers who take their pets in the cabin have to provide an appropriate transport bag or container. The maximum dimensions of the container must not exceed 48 cm x 35 cm x 22 cm.

The fee for this service is not included in the free baggage allowance. The transportation of pets in the cabin is charged 60 euros per way for domestic flights and 90 euros for international flights. However, the fee can differ if you pay in advance, before the day of departure. You may request further information from the Customer Service Center at +44 788 966 4174.

Dogs and cats that exceed the maximum weight of 8 kg may be transported in the hold. The maximum weight of pets transported in the hold is not limited.

Passengers who take their pets in the cabin have to provide an appropriate transport container. Pay attention to the following container requirements:

• The maximum dimensions of the transport container are 110 x 65 x 70 cm;

• The container must have enough space for the animal to stand in the natural position, turn and lie down without any difficulties;

• It must be escape-proof and leakproof;

• There must be ventilation on all four sides of the container;

• It must be made of harmless material, such as strong plastic or wood;

• There must be no sharp corners, edges, or protruding nails to ensure the pet’s safety;

• Wheeled containers are prohibited for the transportation of pets in the hold;

• Empty food and water bowls, fillable from the outside, must be attached to the container.

The fee for this service is not included in the free baggage allowance. It must be paid in advance before the day of departure. Otherwise, the company will refuse the transportation of the pet in the hold.

Transportation in the baggage hold is charged 100 euros per way for pets weighing up to 32 kg (including the container). If the animal weighs more than 32 kg (including the container), the transportation is charged 140 euros per way.

There are some restrictions on certain routes carried out by Bulgaria Air:

• Bulgaria Air does not transport pets to/from the UK;

• Animals weighing more than 32 kg together with the container are not accepted for transportation on flights to/from Brussels;

• Fighting and dangerous breeds can be transported only as cargo.

Fighting and dangerous breeds include Affenpinscher, American Bulldog, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, Anatolian Shepherd Dog, Boston Terrier, Boxer, Brussels Griffin, Bull Terrier, Cane Corso, Caucasian Ovcharka, Dogo Argentino, Doberman, Karabash, Rottweiler, Rhodesian Ridgeback, etc.
