Egyptair

Egyptair is the national carrier of Egypt. They accept pets for transportation in the cabin or as checked baggage in the hold.

Only 2 pets are accepted per class in the cabin on Egyptair flights, so passengers planning to travel with pets should contact the Reservations Department well in advance of the departure date. You can contact them at +44 (20) 8897 8234 (the UK) or 202-903-0940 (the US) to guarantee your pet a place on board.

Dogs and cats travel in the cabin under the following conditions:

  • Pets must be accompanied by a valid vaccination certificate;

  • The age of the pet must comply with current regulations of the country of transit and destination;

  • The passenger must take full responsibility for a pet;

  • The weight of the container with a pet is not included in the customer's free baggage allowance and will be charged additionally;

  • For safety reasons, passengers with pets cannot be seated in the exit rows;

  • The pet owner must make all reservations, including the connecting flights of other carriers;

  • Egyptair has the right to refuse to transport a pet at any time, even after acceptance, for reasons of operational problems or insufficient ventilation conditions;

  • Pets are still subject to the customs regulations of the country of transit and destination;

  • Egyptair is not responsible for the non-acceptance of a destination country;

  • Passengers should have enough food for their pets for the flight and during transit time.

Transportation of pets in the cabin

A pet can travel with you in the cabin if the total weight of the pet and its carrier does not exceed 8 kg. Pets are transported in the cabin under the following conditions:

  • The maximum dimensions of the container must not exceed 55 x 40 x 20 cm;

  • Only 1 pet is allowed per bag/container and each passenger is allowed to bring 1 pet carrier;

  • Two pets can be accepted in one cage if they are used to living together, and they do not exceed the weight and dimensions limits stated above;

  • Pets are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis as there is a limit of 2 pets on board, and any additional pets are accepted as checked baggage;

  • Pets must be transported in approved hard-sided or soft-sided carriers provided by the owner;

  • There must be enough space for the pet to stand up, lie down and turn around comfortably inside the container;

  • Underage passengers are not allowed to carry pets.

Transportation of pets in the baggage hold

Pets that exceed the maximum weight allowed for carriage in the aircraft cabin may be accepted as checked baggage and carried in the baggage hold. The maximum weight of the pet (including its container) must not exceed 45 kg. The recommended dimensions of the container in the hold are 100 x 65 x 70 cm. The containers must be clean, leak-proof, securely locked, and well-ventilated. They must be made of fiberglass, metal, or rigid plastic.

Animals under 23 kg will be charged the normal excess baggage fee, except for flights to/from Canada and the United States, where the fee is 1.5 times more than the excess baggage fee. Pets weighing between 23 kg and 32 kg are charged 1.5 times the excess baggage fee, except for flights to/from Canada and the United States, where the fee is double the excess baggage fee. Animals weighing between 32 kg and 45 kg will be charged double the excess baggage fee, except to/from Canada and the United States, where the charge is 3 times the excess baggage allowance.
