Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways is the national carrier of Qatar. The airline carries pets in the baggage hold. However, service dogs for passengers with disabilities are allowed in the cabin on certain flights.

On Qatar Airways flights, there is no limit on the number of animals carried in the hold, but some aircraft have particular restrictions. To find out more details about your flight, please contact Qatar Airways at +44 330 912 7415 (the UK) or +1 877 777 2827 (the USA).

Although the airline does not allow pets in the cabin, you can transport your pet (dog, cat, or bird) as checked baggage in the hold of the aircraft. To be accepted for the flight, your pet must be healthy and comply with all the company’s requirements:

  • Pets must be transported in containers suitable for air travel;

  • The container must have enough space for the pet to stand up, lie down and turn around comfortably;

  • It must be well-ventilated and escape-proof;

  • The pet must be provided with enough food and water;

  • The container must be leakproof, and its bottom must be covered with absorbent material;

  • You can transport up to two adult animals in the same container if each pet weighs up to 14 kg;

  • Up to three small animals (up to 6 months old) of the same litter can be carried in the same container if each pet weighs up to 14 kg;

  • Qatar Airways reserves the right to refuse carriage if the dog container is too small, or does not comply with local regulations or airport restrictions.

When connecting to another Qatar Airways flight, pets must travel separately from the passenger in the hold.

The cost of this service depends on the weight and dimensions of the pet and its container:

1. Small and medium pets weighing up to 32 kg including the container are charged $200 on routes to/from Qatar and $350 on all other routes.

2. Large pets from 32 kg to 75 kg are charged $300 on routes to/from Qatar and $450 on all other routes.

Dogs weighing more than 75 kg may be transported with the Qatar Airways Cargo service.

Other restrictions

Animals prohibited for transportation:

  • Weak or sick dogs;

  • Female pets with puppies/kittens: transportation will be allowed only based on a veterinary certificate confirming that both the mother and the calf can travel;

  • Pets more than 6 weeks pregnant: carriage will only be accepted if a veterinary certificate certifies that the animal can travel and there is no risk of having a baby during the trip;

  • For the safety and comfort of the animal, Qatar Airways does not recommend carrying pets on cargo flights during the hot months (May-October);
