Royal Air Maroc

Royal Air Maroc is the national airline of Morocco and the country's largest airline. The company allows pets to be carried in the passenger cabin on most flights.

The passenger must book a place on board for a pet in advance, preferably just after booking their seat. You can book a place for a pet by contacting the reservation department at 020 730 758 00 (the UK) or 1 800-344-6726 (the US).

Small pets such as dogs, cats, and birds can be transported in the aircraft cabin subject to the following requirements:

  • The passenger must inform the airline that he wishes to travel with his pet upon booking;

  • The weight of the animal must not exceed 8 kg, including the container (except guide dogs);

  • The animal must be placed in a strong container (box, cage, or basket) with ventilation holes. The dimensions of the container must not exceed 55 x 40 x 20 cm;

  • Animals must be accompanied by valid documentation such as health certificates, vaccination records, and import/export permits;

  • Passengers traveling with guide dogs must provide a medical certificate confirming the passenger's disability.

No more than 2 small pets can be transported in the same transport container, as long as they are accustomed to each other and do not exceed the weight limit.

The fees for this service vary depending on your destination. The fee for domestic flights is 290 MAD; pet transportation to/from Europe or Maghreb costs €70; to/from Africa, America, and the Middle East – $120.

Dogs, cats, and birds exceeding 8 kg may be transported as checked baggage in the hold. The maximum weight of the pet and its container must not exceed 70 kg for transportation in the hold. Animals travel as checked baggage subject to the following requirements:

  • The passenger must inform the airline that he wishes to travel with his pet upon booking;

  • Pets must be transported in completely secure containers which are strong, leakproof, lockable, and well-ventilated. The container must have enough space for the animal;

  • The container must have a label with the name and address of the owner;

  • The locking system must be in good condition. Broken containers are not accepted;

  • There must be no hay or straw inside the container;

  • Pets transported as checked baggage are not included in the passenger’s baggage allowance. The passenger must pay an additional fee for the pet traveling in the hold;

  • Guide dogs accompanying visually impaired, hearing impaired or physically disabled passengers are transported free of charge on Royal Air Maroc flights;

  • Pet owners are fully responsible for accepting animals for transportation.

The fees for this service vary depending on your destination and the pet’s weight.

Animals weighing up to 23 kg are charged:

  • 580 MAD on domestic flights;

  • €60 on flights to/from Europe and Maghreb;

  • $180 on flights to/from Africa, America, and the Middle East.

Animals weighing between 24 and 46 kg are charged:

  • 1150 MAD on domestic flights;

  • €180 on flights to/from Europe and Maghreb;

  • $290 on flights to/from Africa, America, and the Middle East.

Animals weighing between 47 and 70 kg are charged:

  • 2300 MAD on domestic flights;

  • €290 on flights to/from Europe and Maghreb;

  • $520 on flights to/from Africa, America, and the Middle East.

Other Royal Air Maroc restrictions

  1. Pets in the cabin and the hold are not accepted on Royal Air Maroc flights to the UK or flights chartered and operated by Qatar Airways.

  2. By the requirements of the Spanish authorities, the transport of pets on flights to and from Bilbao is strictly prohibited.

  3. Snub-nosed cat and dog breeds are also not allowed on Royal Maroc flights. Brachycephalic cat breeds include British Shorthair, Burmese, Exotic Shorthair, Himalayan, Persian, and Scottish fold. Snub-nosed dog breeds are Affenpinscher, American Cocker Spaniel Boston Terrier, Boxer, Brussels Griffon, Bulldogs (American, English, French, and Dutch), Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Chihuahua (Apple-headed), Chow-chow, English Toy Spaniel, Japanese Chin, Lhasa Apso, Mastiff (all breeds), Pekingese, Pit Bull (all breeds), Pug (all breeds), Sharpei, Shih Tzu, Tibetan Spaniel, Bull Mastiff, Cane Corso, Carlins (all breeds), Dogues (all breeds), Epagneuls (all breeds), Matin Napolitain, Pékinois, Petite Brabancon, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Brussels Griffon, Griffon Bruxellois.

Additional Information

Your pet must have all of its vaccinations and valid documentation to be accepted for transportation.

If you travel with a pet to an EU country, your pet must:

1. Be identified by a microchip implanted under the skin.

2. Get a valid rabies vaccination. Pets must be at least 12 weeks old at the time of vaccination.

3. Passed a valid serum titration for rabies antibodies, except for animals from developing countries that are exempt from this requirement.

4. Have an original health certificate issued by the competent health authority of a developing country and a sample that complies with the requirements of European regulations.
