Requirements for travelling to Cabo Verde with pets

If you want to go to Africa with your pet, you should be aware of veterinary rules in the country you plan to visit. These rules are essential to prevent the spread of contagious diseases among animals, so you have to follow them if you want to be allowed to enter the country with your pet. Plan your journey in advance and collect all the required documents – it will help you avoid problems on holiday.

Everyone who wants to travel to Cabo Verde with a dog or a cat has to follow these rules:

· Check if your pet is microchipped. The ISO-compliant microchip is necessary for the pet’s identification and it will simplify customs clearance upon arrival;

· Pets entering Cabo Verde must be vaccinated against rabies between 30 days and 12 months prior to the journey. Most African countries are not rabies-free, so your pet has to be vaccinated;

· You must visit an authorized veterinarian in your country for your pet’s examination. As a result, if your pet is healthy, the veterinarian should complete and issue the sanitary certificate necessary for a visit to Cabo Verde. The certificate must be obtained 48 hours before the journey;

· Depending on your country of origin, the anti-rabies titer test might be required. Request further information on this issue from the governmental authorities.
