Requirements for travelling to Kazakhstan with pets

Are you planning to spend a vacation in Kazakhstan with a pet? It is possible to go on a trip with a cat or dog, subject to the veterinary standards established in the state. The general requirements of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) apply to the importation of pets into Kazakhstan.

In order for your pet to be allowed to enter the country, the following requirements must be met:

• Pets must be completely healthy. This means that cats and dogs must be free from diseases such as anthrax, rabies, tuberculosis, and dermatophytosis (only cats);

• Every pet must have a current rabies vaccination. The vaccination is given at least 20 days before departure to Kazakhstan, if the pet has not been vaccinated within the last 12 months;

• All dogs must be vaccinated against canine distemper, hepatitis, viral enteritis, parvo- and adenovirus infections, leptospirosis;

• All cats should be vaccinated against panleukopenia;

• Pets must be accompanied by a veterinary document completed by an authorized veterinarian. This may be an international veterinary passport or a veterinary certificate;

• Within 5 days before departure, each pet must undergo a clinical examination by a veterinarian, who will confirm the fact that the animal is completely healthy and ready to travel.

It is allowed to import and move domestic animals (cats and dogs) within the countries of the Customs Union (EAEU) in the amount of no more than 2 per person, without an import permit and quarantine. An important requirement in this case is the presence of an international veterinary passport with veterinarian marks on all mandatory vaccinations.

The Republic of Kazakhstan has approved the following requirements for the transportation of pets:

• During the move, the needs of the pet in nutrition, water, air, movement, administration of natural needs and safety must be met;

• The amount of space in the carrier should correspond to the characteristics of the pet's body;

• The owner must ensure the safety of passengers and employees of the transport on which his pet is transported;

• It is forbidden to transport animals with obvious signs of disease (open wounds, ulcers, suppuration, etc.);

• Physical contact of large and small animals during their movement is prohibited;

• Pets can be transported by air, rail, and sea.
